The tablet industry is still going strong, but if we can take away anything from the Microsoft Surface and iPad Pro releases, it's that some people really want keyboards to go with their tablets. Built-in touch screen keyboards simply aren't enough for writing anything longer than a text, and they take up valuable screen space. The thin screen-protector-like keyboards that Microsoft and Apple make are great for portability, but they don't offer the tactile feel that desktop keyboards do. If you want a keyboard that feels awesome (and isn't that portable) what better place to look for inspiration than a good old-fashion typewriter?

 

Enter the typewriter keyboard, which takes all of the positives of typewriters, such as isolating your focus and pressing on clicky keys, and adds connectivity to familiar word processors and devices. I reached out to Qwerkytoys in September 2022, asking about a potential demo unit of the keyboard that I could return after testing. Talkback Dear Diary was an electronic diary that was targeted towards young girls. The diary could instantly record and playback your voice. You could say whatever you wanted and it would play back. The voice recognition diary was used to protect a person’s secrets from other people.

There were many different functions including, a daily diary, phone numbers, shopping list, calculator, horoscope, homework, secrets and much more. The diary had a keyboard with a screen above it so you could see what you were typing. It would also repeat back to you what you say to it.

The Talkback Dear Diary was created in response to the Talkboy. The Talkboy was a cassette player and voice recorder. It was made famous as a prop used in the hit movie series, Home Alone in 1992.

The Talkback Dear Diary was one of the first electronic diaries that were sold in the 1990’s. Many imitations were created shortly after. They became such a hit because they were password protected, so the users secrets were safe!
